Osmo Mobile 7 - Multifunctional Tracking Module

One of the coolest new additions to gimbal tech I've seen in a while is included with the Osmo Mobile 7P or sold separately for the regular model. DJI calls it the “Multifunctional Tracking Module,” which quickly snaps onto your gimbal for even more features…

  • Tracks subjects without needing the Mimo app, perfect for live streaming, native camera apps, or capturing spontaneous moments
  • Built-in Wireless Mic Receiver - seamlessly connects to a DJI Mic Mini for crisp, professional audio.
  • Integrated Fill Light - Adjustable brightness and four color temperatures are built into this device to improve low-light shooting
  • Gesture Control - Manage tracking, shooting, and framing hands-free

Osmo Mobile 7 vs. Osmo Mobile 7P

The “P” in Osmo Mobile 7P stands for “Pro,” it lives up to that title by offering more advanced features and fine-tuned controls than the standard Osmo Mobile 7.

Along with the previously mentioned Multifunctional Tracking Module, the Osmo Mobile 7P also has a collapsible extension rod to help nail those super-wide and fun angles, plus a built-in tripod to keep it extra sturdy. There’s even a side wheel for manual light/focus/zoom controls, so you can get precise adjustments with your thumb's reach.

And despite all these added goodies, the Osmo Mobile 7P is still compact and travel-friendly, offering one of the best all-in-one setups you can find. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive — $149 for the Osmo Mobile 7P vs. $89 for the standard Osmo Mobile 7 — but that price gap makes sense when you factor in all the pro features.

If you’re looking for a complete, self-contained setup (especially if you already own the DJI Mic Mini), the 7P is the upgrade you want to make. But if you’re looking for a go-anywhere phone stabilizer, the Mobile 7 is perfect.

The module.

Osmo Mobile 7 Battery

The DJI Osmo Mobile 7 is going to be hard to beat. It’s a massive leap forward from DJI’s previous Osmo Mobile 6, offering up to 10 hours of battery life (thanks to 3,350 mAh batteries), which is over 50% more than the OM6. This means you can film for hours without worrying that your rig will power down halfway through the action. Plus, when it’s not in use, you can plug your phone in via USB-C and even use it as a power bank.

DJI Mimo App with Osmo Mobile 7

The DJI Mimi App is the brand’s smartphone connectivity app for all handheld devices. Should you choose to use the module attachment, you can also integrate a “one-tap” editing process to your footage in the App’s suite for quick in-camera edits between clips. This makes it easy for beginner creators looking to craft short-form content and export it easily for real-time posting if you’re showing BTS footage with a quick turnaround time.

So, while the App’s easy interface and shooting guidelines help first timers — I’ve worked with DJI plenty before and didn’t find this personally too necessary. I usually prefer to make all my trimming and color adjustments in DaVinci Resolve to keep a consistent workflow, but the option for simple, on-the-spot editing is a nice touch.

Build & Quality

Honestly, nobody likes flimsily-feeling gear. Fortunately, DJI (alongside brands like Moment) keeps setting the bar high for premium, mid-weight, compact gear that can travel with you in any bag. The Osmo 7’s rod feels sturdy enough that I don’t hesitate to dangle my iPhone out the car window for that perfect shot, which happens more often than I can admit. With so many upgraded features, you’d hope for great build quality, and the Osmo 7 delivers: no cheap plastic vibes.

Who Is the Osmo 7 For?

If you’re a mobile filmmaker seeking a streamlined, user-friendly, and downright fun way to capture stable footage, the Osmo 7 has your name on it. With its trusty 3-axis stabilization, you can easily attach lightweight extras like the Moment QuickLock VND filter or a 1.55x anamorphic lens. Better yet, the built-in audio transmission on the 7P model pairs perfectly with the DJI Mic Mini.

The Gimbal

The DJI Osmo Mobile 7 is going to be hard to beat. It’s a massive leap forward from DJI’s previous Osmo Mobile 6, offering up to 10 hours of battery life (thanks to 3,350 mAh batteries), which is over 50% more than the OM6. This means you can film for hours without worrying that your rig will power down halfway through the action. Plus, when it’s not in use, you can plug your phone in via USB-C and even use it as a power bank.

DJI also includes “one-tag” editing in their “easy tutorials” suite in the DJI Mimo App for quick in-camera edits. I usually prefer to make all my trimming and color adjustments in DaVinci Resolve, though; I run a YouTube channel and work for a commercial production company, so I like to keep my workflow consistent, but the option for simple, on-the-spot editing is a nice touch.

Between the Standard Osmo 7 and the Osmo 7P, the 7P packs a few extra perks: an integrated extension rod, improved AI-assisted tracking, and the same rock-solid three-axis stabilization. Once you attach the multifunctional module, you can easily switch between the front and rear cameras, keeping your subject both well-lit and tracked by the gimbal’s built-in AI (instead of relying on your phone’s camera). This module powers an automated tracking mechanism right on the gimbal, while its intuitive gesture controls let you manage tracking, shooting, and framing within your environment. It's so much easier than relying on your phone's tiny screen when moving around to get the shot!

Whether you pick the Standard or the Pro model, both come with a built-in light control featuring four levels of temperature and adjustment. However, the Osmo 7P includes a side wheel for more precise manual tweaks, which is nice for shooters like me who require access to finer-tuned adjustments in lower-light situations or interview settings.

Build & Quality

Listen, nobody likes flimsily-feeling gear. Fortunately, DJI (alongside brands like Moment) keeps setting the bar high for premium, mid-weight, compact gear that can travel with you in any bag. The Osmo 7’s rod feels sturdy enough that I don’t hesitate to dangle my iPhone 15 Pro out the car window for that perfect shot, which happens more often than I can admit. With so many upgraded features, you’d hope for great build quality, and the Osmo 7 delivers no cheap-plastic vibes.

The battery life is also insane. You can use the gimbal as a power bank to charge your phone via its USB-C port when you're not filming.

Also, I cannot express how great the multifunctional module is: you can plug your phone into the gimbal while hooking a separate power bank to the gimbal’s USB-C port, extending battery life indefinitely (or at least until your power bank runs dry). That’s a lifesaver for marathon shooting days!

Market Value and Competitors

DJI really dominates the smartphone gimbal space — it’s one of the few brands we’d personally recommend after hands-on testing. They listen to their users and refine every touchpoint to make shooting easier than ever, which is crucial in fast-paced vlog shooting or run-and-gun scenes. Their main competition might be companies, likeZhiyun or Hohem, which are both stellar for the pros, but DJI’s AI and near-foolproof beginner interface make it the best go-to gimbal for those who like to keep their setup simple.

I respect Zhiyun’s advanced features for more pro-level control, but I still reach for the Osmo 7 when shooting on my iPhone; DJI just makes it easy. I’ve been a huge fan of the Osmo Pocket 3 for my personal documentation, so picking up the Osmo 7 for those quick-and-dirty iPhone shoots is a no-brainer. If I don’t want to bring an extra light, cage, or gimbal, I don’t have to!

Osmo 6 vs. Osmo 7

The Osmo 7 offers everything the Osmo 6 offers, plus more. DJI often replaces older products with new gear that carries forward only the best features. So, the Osmo 7 lineup now sports an integrated tripod, a more advanced tracking module, built-in wireless receiver options, and an even simpler user interface.

In addition, the 7 and 7P models are lighter and more compact for travel, and they save you time with a foolproof one-step folding mechanism so you can start shopping as soon as it opens.

Adding Accessories

I’m no stranger to filmmaking add-ons; I’ve got a whole YouTube channel dedicated to camera gear and building the ultimate smartphone rig. Even though the Osmo series works great as a straight-out-of-the-box solution, I like adding a bit of my own gush.

Both models support up to 300g of weight. My personal additions to my phone are the Moment QuickLock VND filter (for that perfect cinematic motion blur, which looks especially great when mechanically stabilized on the Osmo) paired with the gorgeous gold flares of the 1.55x Anamorphic lens for those warm, Hollywood-like shots. Just double-check that your phone model and these accessories are under 300g, or you’ll have trouble balancing!

Conclusion

Technology gets sharper, easier to navigate, and cost-conscious every year. I've seen a lot of upgraded tools in my time working with cameras, but DJI gimbals continue to make a statement no matter how many other brands try to mimic their features.

I'm impressed by how well-tailored the Osmo is to mobile creators. It gives you everything you need to start shooting without buying extras, making it the go-to all-in-one stabilizer tool.
